Protecting Paradise with North Island

Sustainability is as important to North Island as it is to us at Love Brand. Guests are invited to take part in the island’s ‘Noah’s Ark’ programme, a long-term conservation project to restore and protect this natural paradise. Years of habitat loss caused by invasive plant species has put many native species at risk, but the project is working to remove these invaders, while replanting native flora to restore the island’s biodiversity.

The island is also a sanctuary for over 100 free-roaming Aldabra Giant Tortoises and plays a vital role in the survival of the endangered Green Turtle and critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle. Thanks to years of dedicated monitoring, the number of Hawksbills nesting has doubled, and Green Turtle nests have increased sevenfold.
