What Makes Cotton So Popular?
Discover why cotton is the ultimate fabric for comfort, durability, and sustainability.
Uncover cotton's timeless appeal and why cotton fabric is a LOVE BRAND & Co. favourite.
Did you know that nearly half of the world’s fabric is crafted from cotton? This humble fibre runs through the tapestry of human history, stretching back thousands of years to the flourishing ancient civilisations of Egypt and India. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), cotton’s popularity is so much so that its production supports the livelihoods of over 250 million people around the world.
But what makes cotton so universally beloved? And why has it become a Love Brand staple? Let’s unravel its story and discover why it has earned its place in the sun.
There’s a reason cotton is a favourite for resort wear. Its breathability is unmatched, allowing air to flow effortlessly through its fibres and helping moisture escape, so you stay cool and dry even under the most sizzling tropical sun.
It doesn’t just absorb, it adapts. Cotton fabric wicks moisture to its surface, drying quickly and keeping you fresh, especially when used in terry cloth. That’s why we created our cotton terry line of shorts and shirts, perfect for slipping on after a beach swim or dip in the pool.
From breezy, lightweight shirts that dance with the sea breeze to the soft, absorbent embrace of terry cotton, 100% organic cotton fabric is the unsung hero of warm-weather wardrobes.
There’s a reason cotton has stood the test of time, it’s a fabric that feels as good as it looks. Soft and gentle against the skin, cotton is celebrated for its breathability and ability to absorb heat and perspiration. Better still, it’s hypoallergenic and non-irritating, making it a favourite for even the most sensitive skin.
Cotton as a fabric is also hugely durable. It’s resistant to wear and tear and is easy to take care of. Unlike wool or other delicate fabrics, cotton thrives in the modern wardrobe. It can be machine-washed again and again and holds up beautifully to high temperatures when ironing. In fact, high-quality cotton pieces, like ours at Love Brand, can last a lifetime with the proper care, blending practicality with timeless style.
At Love Brand, we believe in the power of conscious choices, which is why we use 100% organic Indian cotton in all our products. This eco-friendly alternative leaves a much smaller carbon footprint than regular cotton. Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, organic cotton also uses 60% less water and way less energy than conventional cotton and it also helps preserve soil health.
When it comes to the end of its life cycle, cotton proves its worth once again. It can be easily recycled and made into new yarn or clothing and is also biodegradable.
Every one of our cotton pieces begins its story under the golden sun, where cotton bolls are carefully hand-picked from the fields. Once gathered, the bolls are gently cleaned to remove seeds, dirt, and debris, before being laid out to dry naturally under the warmth of the sun’s rays.
From here, the raw cotton embarks on a transformation. Through the delicate art of carding, each fibre is teased apart, separated, and aligned, a process that blends precision with patience. Once the fibres are perfectly aligned, they are spun into soft, fine yarn.
The yarn is then skillfully woven into cloth. Here, two sets of yarn are intricately intertwined at right angles, forming a durable, breathable fabric. This newly woven cloth undergoes meticulous quality checks to ensure it meets the highest standard - ready to become the foundation of a timeless piece in your wardrobe.
