The Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and certainly one for the bucket list. It’s also where Four Seasons Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings. Enveloped by kaleidoscopic coral reefs and crystal-clear waters, guests have front row seats to see the majestic manta rays and elusive white sharks of Hanifaru Bay.

This remote island escape is set in one of the Maldives’ oldest atolls, where lush jungle spills onto powder-white sands and turquoise waters shimmer as far as the eye can see. On arrival, you’ll walk through a dreamy path flanked by ancient palms, the air warm and salty, before you arrive at the lobby, crowned with a dazzling 2-story chandelier. A friendly greeting from the staff, a cool welcome drink, and you’re off on a breezy buggy ride through lush tropical foliage to your private island hideaway.

You can choose from oceanfront bungalows or spectacular overwater villas that sit effortlessly atop the turquoise waters, bringing you closer than ever to the marine world around you. Don’t forget to take a quick glance at the stilts, as you may spot the resort’s coral regeneration frames taking hold where shoals of curious fish gather.

Head inside and the villas are decorated with whitewash walls and splashes of blue, with woven chairs and golden lighting to emphasise the tropical setting. But the real wow moment? The endless private deck. The infinity pool stretches beyond the deck out over the Maldivian waters and is long enough to get your laps in.

And then there’s the overwater net, possibly the coolest spot in the villa. Stretch out above the sea, cocktail in hand, and gaze down at the marine world below. By night, the fish come to you, dancing in the glow of your villa lights. It’s like having your own private aquarium, only better.

If watching the underwater world from your villa isn’t quite enough, dive in! Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru sits in prime position for ocean adventures, with world-class diving and snorkelling right on your doorstep, not to mention those headline-grabbing mantas at nearby Hanifaru Bay. Gliding alongside them feels like you’re in your very own nature documentary.

What’s more, Four Seasons has also brought together a team of marine biologists to live and work on the island, monitoring everything from coral restoration to turtle rehab. Guests can get involved too at both the Marine Discovery Centre and the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, where the biologists are on hand to answer your questions and you can meet the island’s shelled residents face-to-face. It’s not every day you get to hang out with sea turtles between spa appointments.

Speaking of which, wellness at Landaa Giraavaru is unmatched. One of our favourite touches is the island’s yoga trail, complete with a map of scenic yoga stations dotted around the resort. Follow it up with a treatment at AyurMa, the resort’s overwater spa sanctuary, where the breeze floats through the open rooms and the sound of the sea soundtracks your experience.

Michelin Stars and Barefoot Bars

After a day of chasing manta rays, you’ll be more than ready to eat, and at Four Seasons, of course, you’re in very good hands when it comes to food. 

Coastal Italian favourites are served up at the airy Blu Beach Club by Michelin-distinguished Chef Nino Di Costanzo. For family-friendly buffet dining, Café Landaa is the go-to, or for a toes-in-the-sand dining experience, head to Fuego Grill. Think just-caught seafood, sizzling steaks and flame-kissed veggies, all served steps from the sea.
