The Great Elephant Migration | Newport

Big news! The Great Elephant Migration 2024 has officially begun in Newport, RI.

We’ll be your eyes and ears on the ground keeping you updated on all things elephants as the 100-strong herd embark on their journey across the US.

The Kick-Off

The Great Elephant migration kicked off this week with a fantastic event which brought together guests from the worlds of art, fashion, conservation, and philanthropy in a colourful celebration.

Art&Newport and Elephant Family threw the unforgettable cocktail soiree and multi-faith blessing ceremony on Monday and what a way to start the celebrations!

The vibrant afternoon included music and speeches and culminated in guests showering the herd with flower petals in a traditional Indian Puja ceremony - a beautiful tribute to a shared love for nature and Mother Earth. Celebrating alongside us were the fabulous Hadi Falapishi, Waris Ahluwalia, Maddie Moon, Edith McBean, and Minnie Cushing, all dedicated champions of global conservation efforts.

Visit The Herd in Newport | 4th July - 6th September

Now that the elephants have arrived in Newport, if you’re a local, there are plenty of chances to see the herd across the city, before they embark on their next journey on September 6th.

Catch them around town, starting at Cliff Walk by Easton Beach. Wander south along the serene coastline and you’ll catch your first glimpse of the herd at Salve Regina, where 52 elephants are situated on the oceanside lawn of McAuley Hall - a spectacular sight to behold!

"It ticks off all of the boxes of bringing people into the town, making an event that’s free and open to the public, an awareness of how art can bring awareness to people and to shine a light on important issues, such as coexistence, conservation, migration, all of these issues that are pressing issues of our time"
