Protecting the Planet One Pair of Shorts at a Time
While skinny dipping might be the most sustainable way to swim, Love Brand is a close second!
Sustainability used to be the buzzword in fashion, but for many brands, it was more of a phase than a promise, at Love Brand that’s not the case.
From day one, we’ve been on a mission to help elephants, endangered species, and the planet. We’re proud members of 1% for the Planet (so, no green-washing here), and we’re B Corp certified. We’re deeply committed to:
- Shrinking our carbon footprint
- Minimising any negative impact
- Protecting the planet and all its inhabitants
But we don’t just talk the talk, we swim the swim…
From Waste to Waves
It all started with our Staniel swim shorts. Made from recycled plastic, they’re like the phoenix of swimwear, rising from the ashes of what was destined for landfill. Each pair is made from 15 recycled 500ml bottles and so far, we’ve swapped out over 40,000 meters of virgin polyester and nylon for more eco-friendly alternatives.
Matching Father & Son Swim Shorts
Why recycled plastic? Nylon and polyester, the usual swimwear fabrics, come with a hefty environmental price tag. Nylon, for example, releases nitrous oxide - a greenhouse gas that’s 300 times worse than carbon dioxide.
By using recycled materials, we’re cutting landfill waste and preserving resources. But we know we’ve still got a long way to go. That’s why we’re always on the hunt for even greener fabrics and innovative ideas.
We’re also funding research to tackle the microplastics that sneak into our oceans, funding research to create a next-gen swimwear textile that meets our sustainability goals and protects marine life.
Nature's Finest
When it comes to linen, we go organic - because, let’s face it, nature always knows best. Made from flax seeds, organic linen requires fewer pesticides and less water than cotton and is fully biodegradable. Plus, it’s low-maintenance, thriving without fancy irrigation, fertilisers, or herbicides. Its strong fibres also make it super durable, meaning our linen pieces are built to last.
We’re also big fans of organic cotton as it leaves a much smaller carbon footprint. Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, organic cotton uses 60% less water and way less energy than conventional cotton. Biodegradable and recyclable, it’s cotton the way nature intended.

Dyeing to be Sustainable
When it comes to how we print, we’re constantly keeping a close eye on industry advancements, working hand-in-hand with our manufacturers to boost sustainability at every possible turn.
Take our plain swim shorts, for instance. We’ve embraced Nebulization Dyeing, a method that slashes water usage by 90% without sacrificing colour quality.
When it comes to our patterned pieces, we use sublimation printing, a water-free method that prints on recycled paper. Even the off-cuts get recycled right back into production, ensuring there’s zero waste.
The Art of Block Printing
Most recently we’ve taken a dive into the inspiring world of block printing - a centuries-old Indian tradition involving hand-stamping designs using intricately carved blocks. It’s as beautiful as it is sustainable. Using natural dyes, minimal water, and less energy, block printing breathes life into our fabrics while honouring age-old craftsmanship.
We’ve utilised the art of block printing in all of our Elephant Palace print items in our inaugural women’s collection for Pre25 to celebrate this stunning craft.
