Origins of the Floral Print

We know the floral print has become a wardrobe staple, but where did it actually come from? It started way back in ancient Greek and Roman times when they’d use real flowers to decorate clothes with a scented touch.

As techniques evolved, so did the designs, and by the late medieval period, florals were appearing on fabric. In 12th century China, flowers were embroidered onto clothing and the artistry quickly spread across the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, mass-produced printed fabric became common. As a result, floral patterns became popular and well-liked. Cut to the 20th century, and they were firmly solidified in the zeitgeist from the era of flower power to the iconic Hawaiian shirt.
