Magical Meteora | Greece

Meteora Greece
Meteora is the largest archaeological site in central Greece and a must on anyone’s travel itinerary when visiting the mainland. Included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, these huge columns of rock host 6 perfectly perched monasteries reaching heights of more than 600 meters.

Meteora in Greek means “suspended in the air”, a phrase that perfectly describes these incredible Greek orthodox monasteries that give visitors the most spectacular views of the region and breathtaking landscapes below.
Guided tours are recommended to fully immerse yourself in everything the region has to offer and truly envisage the unique perspective of medieval monastic life. Isolated architectural masterpieces offer a full range of religious treasures, wall paintings, icons and libraries rich in old manuscripts.

Where to Stay?

The recommended place to stay overnight when visiting the Meteora is the picturesque town of Kalambaka. The town offers a range of gorgeous places to stay as well as traditional restaurants and taverns. Which are all found at the foot of the rock formations. Stay at the Hotel Meteora, a luxury getaway within an enchanting destination. This modern hotel located at the highest point of the village gives you panoramic views of the rocks right from the poolside.

For those who are a little more nervous about scaling the heights of the rocks, the town of Kalambaka offers many monuments too. Visit the Church of Holy Mother’s Assumption which is located in the northeast part of the town under the very high rock of Aea.
