LOVE BRAND & Co. is extremely proud to partner with Elephant Family USA as the Official Retail Partner of 'The Great Elephant Migration' 2024

The Great Elephant Migration Sculpture

Big News!

100 magnificent Indian Elephants are migrating across the USA to share their story with the world. The Great Elephant Migration is a global fundraising adventure to amplify Indigenous knowledge and inspire the human race, to share space. A collaboration between Indigenous artisans, contemporary artists and cultural institutions, it will raise millions of dollars to power human-wildlife coexistence projects and protect migratory animals making spectacular journeys across land, rivers, skies and oceans. Together with LOVE BRAND & Co as their chosen retail partner, we aim to raise millions for conservation efforts around the world. We are very proud to be the Official Retail Partner of The Great Elephant Migration USA and also the Sponsor of the inaugural exhibition at Newport R.I.

Ruth Ganesh

“In the last 40 years, the human population of India has doubled to 1.4 billion, which has coincided with an increase in the number of elephants, rhinos, lions, and tigers in the country. The extraordinary success of this compassionate coexistence is a testament to the power of collective empathy. Our magnificent herd is here to tell its story, inspiring the human race to share space and be part of this transformative movement.”

About The Art

The 100 life-sized Indian elephants are hand-crafted from invasive lantana weed. Each elephant in the 100-strong herd has been created by The Coexistence Collective, a community of 200 Indigenous artisans from communities in India’s Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Tamil Nadu. The collective has recreated every elephant they live alongside using one of the world’s top invasive weeds, Lantana Camara, which encroaches upon over 40% of India's protected areas. Each elephant is twinned with a conservation NGO in the USA and beyond, whose work will directly benefit from the sale of their sculpture. The collective has spent the past five years replicating every elephant they live alongside in intricately detailed sculptural form. Like many indigenous cultures around the world, these communities have extensive knowledge of nature and wildlife based on generations of observation and experience.

“The vision of 100 hand-made Indian elephants migrating across America in my mind, is a monumental, cinematic and moving work of performance art. Each elephant is a sculpture of a real elephant with its own name that coexists with the Indigenous communities in the Nilgiri Hills of Southern India. I see these elephant sculptures descending from the superb 16th to 18th Century Royal elephant portrait paintings, where every elephant had its own name.”

The Exhibition

The USA exhibition follows an expansive UK tour in 2021, which attracted 5 million spectators and marks the first time the travelling public art exhibition and fundraising initiative will arrive in America. The year-long campaign across the United States aims to support Indigenous-led conservation efforts and inspire peaceful human and animal coexistence worldwide.

The Great Elephant Migration Schedule

Starting in Newport (4th July - 6th September), the 3,500-mile migration will take the elephant sculptures to The Meatpacking District, New York City (6th September - 20th October 2024), Miami Beach (December 2024), the Buffalo Pastures in Browning, Montana (May - June 2025), and Los Angeles (July 2025). The exhibition promises to spread joy and wonder wherever they travel.

"The way we see the world shapes the way we treat it. If a mountain is a deity, not a pile of ore; if a river is one of the veins of the land, not potential irrigation water; if a forest is a sacred grove, not timber; if other species are biological kin, not resources; or if the planet is our mother, not an opportunity - then we will treat each other with greater respect. Thus is the challenge, to look at the world from a different perspective."

- David Suzuki

More about Elephant Family

Elephant Family is committed to building landscapes that support human-wildlife coexistence. As human populations expand and natural habitats shrink, people and animals are fighting a deadly battle for food and space. The charity supports a wide range of projects that find ways for humans and animals to live closer together than ever before. From securing a network of wildlife corridors which act as bridges between islands of forests, to relocating busy highways that slice through primary forests, these projects help humans and wildlife more effectively share space.

More about Love Brand

This is a love story. A love of wildlife, island life, travel and adventure forms the bedrock of LOVE BRAND & Co. Established in 2010 by British husband and wife duo Oliver and Rose Tomalin, the couple have created an authority in luxury resort wear for the discerning traveller. Motivated by a love of elephants and helping conservation, they have been giving back to elephants and endangered wildlife since day one. Living in the Bahamas with a long family history in the islands has also given LOVE BRAND & Co. the advantage in mastering island style. Refined over a decade, the brand offers a wide range of luxury resort wear, produced in Europe and India, using only natural or recycled fabrics with prints inspired by the natural world.

"There is so much splendour and magic to The Great Elephant Migration. The important message of sharing space with wildlife. Fundraising for elephants and all wonderous wild animals. The artisanal artistry and community spirit behind making the sculptures that are so anatomically accurate. The sustainable and innovative use of the invasive lantana weed. And of course the exhibit itself, 100 life-size elephants set in the most amazing gardens, cities, beaches and mountains of America. It's bonkers, breathtaking and completely brilliant."
